During my residency at Andratx, Mallorca/Spain, in Oct-Nov 2020, I focused my research on the largest and most violent wildfire on the island to date, which raged in 2013. Sadly, due to human lapses, slow responses and extreme drought the fire spread and destroyed nature completely over an area of 3.000 soccer fields.
Although the fire happened seven years ago there are still burnt remains. For me, that fire on Mallorca serves as a departure point to globally link fire disasters in the Amazon rainforest, Australia, Taiga, Siberia, and California.
