The concept for the Per Vitrum series is based on the analysis of light refraction and color perception by Isaac Newton and Johann Wolfgang von Goethe.
Both used prisms for their observations and experiments: while Newton scientifically and rationally examined the physical color spectrum of light, Goethe worked more intuitively, assigning sensual qualities to color.
Even though Goethe’s work was rejected by scientists, his color wheel and texts on the psychological effects of colors still have an impact on art today.
Based on these two adverse statements, Per Vitrum combines 18th century enlightenment era objective reasoning (Newton) with the subjective intuition of 19th century romanticism (Goethe).
